Nature offers complex and powerful ingredients whose benefits cannot be replicated in a laboratory.” – Barbara Close

During the summer months, I am always drawn to using more soothing and calming facial hydration. This is when I opt out of using creams and opt into using hydrosols combined with light oils.

Hydrosols are a beauty regimen I cannot live without. I love spraying these floral waters on my face consistently throughout the day, as they provide a rich and healthy source of hydration.

What is a Hydrosol?

A hydrosol (aka hydrolat) is floral water that is produced through gentle steam distillation. When the steam reaches these floral bunches, essential therapeutic properties are released into the water. This floral water contains rich essential oil properties that restore pH balance and fortify the skin. The more delicate the extraction process, the higher the quality of hydrosol.

Lavender Hydrosol is beneficial for ALL skin types

Balanced, Hormone Reactive, Stress Reactive, Environment Reactive & Mature Skin Types.

During the summer months I love using lavender products because lavender is gentle and balancing on the skin.

Lavender contains powerful chemical compounds that promote skin tightening and relaxation. I find lavender hydrosols particularly helpful during summer months where my skin can end up being a little oilier than usual and reactive to the summer heat and humidity. Not only is lavender powerful in healing blemishes, but it is also an incredible antiseptic. Scientific studies and clinical trials have proven lavender’s ability to fight infection and regenerate skin. Lavender contains key components that stimulate the growth of new cells while promoting healing.

One of its compounds, linalool, proves to be particularly beneficial for acne prone skin and healing burns.  Its antiseptic properties make it perfect for environment reactive skin during summer months as it restores natural pH.

In addition to skin hydration and regeneration, lavender hydrosol will naturally uplift your mood with its relaxing compounds. Ester in lavender makes it powerful for relieving anxiety, depression, and restlessness.

Choose Quality

In order to reap the wealth of benefits that lavender hydrosol can provide for your skin, it is important to invest in a high-quality hydrosol. High quality hydrosols are processed using a gentle slow-steam method. This will ensure that all powerful antiseptic properties and minerals are not destroyed in the process. Many conventional companies extract their hydrosols through excessive heat and chemical extraction (hexane and other harsh chemicals) leaving the floral waters lacking in regenerative properties. In addition, it is important to ensure the purity of your product.

Conventional products may say they have “lavender” in it, but unless it lists the Latin name (in this case it would be Lavendula angustifolia), it is most likely a mix of synthetic linalool and linalyl acetate used to imitate authentic lavender.

Organic Opulence’s Pick

Evanhealy is my primary choice for hydrosol products because all fresh herbs are sourced and hand-harvested directly from small organic farms.  This hydrosol is not a byproduct of oil extraction (aka leftovers) but rather a product of pure distillation solely for its floral waters.

This tailored process renders a hydrosol that is truly rich in all its molecular compounds.

The hydrosol extraction process is done through slow steam distillation over the course of 2-3 hours as opposed to other conventional companies that pump out hydrosols over the course of 30 minutes (resulting in the destruction of all valuable compounds).

You get what you pay for with this product. It is hand distilled via copper stills and your hydrosol comes in a glass bottle, so there is no risk of harmful plastic agents leaking into your floral water.

In addition, the hydrosol is purely floral water. Unfortunately, with many conventional brands, you’ll find that floral waters can be mixed with other substances… including regular water.

This floral water is strictly 100% Organic Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and that’s it!

The best way to use and enjoy this product is to combine it with a natural oil of your choice (rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate, argan oil, etc.). This combination will create a balancing effect and fortify your skin.
